The “Silver Foxes” are a group of more than twenty volunteers that meet in small groups every Wednesday from mid-April to mid-November to maintain the trails. Trail mowers, chainsaws, and weed whackers are some of the tools you can see them using. The Silver Foxes repair and rebuild any of the over 100 bridges and other structures on the Crescent Trail as time permits. These volunteers also work hard to remove fallen trees, maintain drainage, and do other tasks that help to keep the trails in shape for everyone to use. Jim Unckless, is our fearless leader, also known as our “Trail Boss” and is often seen single-handedly repairing, placing signage, mowing key trails, or working with our Eagle Scout volunteers.
Below are some examples of the Silver Foxes at work. You are welcome to join in. See the Support page to volunteer!
